Cyclone Yasi imaged by NASA’s Aqua satellite

It is only from space that you can really appreciate how big Cyclone Yasi is. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has released the below infrared (heat) image of Cyclone Yasi taken by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument on NASA’s Aqua satellite. The image was taken this morning Australian time at  1.17am AEST. A distinct eye is visible, and the outer bands of the storm can be seen nearing the Australian coast.
