Moon passes Venus (25 – 28 January 2012)

Step outside as the evening twilight ends over the next few nights to watch the crescent Moon pass Venus above the Western horizon.

Finder chart for 25 to 28 January 2012. Chart prepared for Brisbane for 7.30 pm AEST (8.30 pm AEDT). The chart will be useful for all of Eastern Australia (Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne).

If you are a teacher covering the Earth & Space Sciences section of the Australian Curriculum (Science) this term, don’t forget to ask your students to watch this slow ‘event’. What your students will see over the four nights is the Moon completing part of its orbit around the Earth.
