Giant sunspot visible without optical aid! Just remember your solar viewing glasses.

(Posted 11 April 2016) If you happen to have a pair of solar viewing glasses lying around, grab them and look at the Sun. Sunspot AR2529 is easily visible to the unaided eye. It is twice the size of the Earth and growing!  I took the below image using a handheld camera with a really good zoom and a solar filter. The white colour is from the solar filter. Different filters result in different colours.

Warning! DO NOT LOOK at the Sun using sunglasses. They don’t filter out enough of the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation. Do that enough and you get cataracts and go blind.
