  Observing Highlights 

 

 Observing highlights for March 20th 1999

The bi-annual Q.A.E.C. always concludes with a night observing session for participants. Information about what would have been seen in the sky on the night of the conference (if it had been clear!) can be found here.

Planets visible

  • The Earth's Moon, and the planets Saturn and Venus will appear as shown left at 6.30 pm. There will only be brief viewing opportunity with Venus setting at 7.35pm, followed shortly after by Saturn and the Moon.
  • Mars (the only other bright planet visible) rises at 8.08pm.

Constellations

At the end of astronomical twilight (7.20pm), the following commonly known consteallations are visible:

  • Crux (Southern Cross)
  • Leo
  • Gemini
  • Orion
  • Taurus
  • Canis Major
