Stunning image of Brisbane’s lights and part of ISS from space

(Posted 8 March 2014) If you read the Courier-Mail yesterday, you would have seen the stunning image of Brisbane’s lights from space on the front cover taken by one of the crew on board the International Space Station. It turns out the image is relatively old (2011) but that doesn’t mean it is any less impressive.

Image courtesy NASA. This unique photographic angle, featuring the International Space Station's Cupola and crew activity inside it, other hardware belonging to the station, city lights on Earth and airglow was captured by one of the Expedition 28 crew members. The major urban area on the coast is Brisbane, Australia. The station was passing over an area southwest of Canberra.

More information about green airglow visible in the image can be found here on Wikipedia. Information about how to see the International Space Station can be found here on this site.
