(Posted 14 April 2014) Wow! That is the only word that comes to mind having seen Saturn occulted (covered or eclipsed) by the Moon. If you missed it, don’t panic as there will be one more occultation of Saturn visible from Australia this year (4 August 2014). It will be even better than tonights (!) as the Moon will be at First Quarter. This means that Saturn’s disappearance behind the disc of the Moon will occur on the ‘night side’ of the Moon making for even more dramatic images.
Speaking of which, the images in this post were captured simply by pointing my phone at the eyepiece of my telescope.
And the phone? A Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Love digital photography (I am old enough to have used film camera and wasted lots of money on photos that didn’t turn out.
