Thanks to the wonders of my Samsung Galaxy 3 phone’s camera … photo’s of Venus during the day!

I love modern technology. I am old enough to have wasted money using a film camera to try and get photo’s of the planets. I say try because the quality of my photos was terrible.

Venus as seen through my telescope’s wide angle finder scope. Look near the centre of the cross hair for a star … which is really Venus.

Today you can just get out your phone and take a picture pointing at the eyepiece of your telescope and get a much better photograph – and without having to wait for the film to be processed.

Venus as seen through the main eyepiece of my telescope. Yes, it really does look like a very tiny featureless moon.

The above two photographs illustrate this ability nicely, plus confirm that you can easily see Venus during the day providing you know where to look.
