UARS re-entry draws closer

Since I made my last post about the re-entry of NASA’s Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), it’s orbit has decreased even further. In the last approximately 36 hours NASA has changed the re-entry forecast twice. Unfortunately the rapid change in its orbit means that visibility predictions for this satellite are now unreliable. We now have to wait for NASA to issue a reasonably accurate re-entry forecast. This won’t happen until 12 hours before the decay time. At the time of writing this, re-entry is expected to be around 23 September 2011.
