Venus during the day (with photo)

I have noticed that once Venus fades slightly past peak brightness, it gets much more difficult to locate in the day sky with the unaided eye.

I put that theory to the test this afternoon as it is now only magnitude -4.0 and spend some time looking for Venus during the day. I was unsuccessful and then turned to my 70 mm binoculars to locate Venus. That was successful once I looked in the correct location (!) and I recorded the above image as proof sometime around 3.15 pm AEST. Unfortunately I had to manually focus the camera as the DSLR couldn’t cope with having effectively nothing to focus on. Venus was much easier to see in the binoculars that how it appears in the above image.
