Live in Western Australia? Kosmos 2176 satellite re-entry possibly visible shortly

If you live in Western Australia, you might want to look up for a re-entering satellite this morning. Kosmos 2176 is currently in a 69 x 614 km orbit, meaning that at it’s lowest point it is passing through the Earth’s upper atmosphere slowing it dramatically.

Kosmos 2176 is expected to re-enter today at 8.55 am AEST today +/- 4 hours or 6.55 WA time over Thailand. However that is an estimate only. If the reentry is delayed, then the satellite could potentially re-enter over Indonesia or Western Australia. A website showing the ground track of the satellite is here: http://reentrynews.aero.org/1992003a.html

If you are interested in a website that offers live satellite tracking, go here: http://www.n2yo.com. The website will automatically detected your location. You will need to put in the USSPACECOM Catalog number which is 21847. That will show you an estimate of where the satellite is.

The satellite will be coming from the North North West – if it is still in orbit by the time it gets to you. There is no estimate available from any of the websites when it will pass over W.A.. If I was in W.A., I would be looking up to the North North West between 7 am W.A. time and 7.15 am on the off chance that I saw something.
