Mars and Saturn in the evening sky

I am putting up this post in response to an inquiry about the visibility of planets in the evening sky at present. At this stage, only Mars and Saturn are easily visible in the evening sky.

If you are not familiar with the night sky, the easiest way to locate a planet is to use the Moon as a kind of a celestial signpost.

Note that Saturn’s rings are visible with even a small telescope. If you haven’t looked at Saturn before and are not familiar with the night sky, take advantage of the Moon’s closeness to Saturn to locate it.

  1. Thanks for your posts, the make-it things and this whole site. It is so helpful and I’m using it to get the grandkids into astronomy. I’ve taken a course, but that didn’t help too much with the night sky since it was based in the U.S. I get all my night sky stuff from you. Thanks. Really.

  2. Tosca,

Glad that you find the site to be helpful. A big motivation for me is getting children active in astronomy. So it is great that you are able to that with your grandkids.

    Regards,

    Paul Floyd.
