This week, the sky continues to produce lots of pretty views for the casual sky watcher. You can be an early riser and be rewarded with the dazzling sight of Venus and Jupiter above the North Eastern horizon in the predawn sky or get to point even the smallest of telescopes at Saturn to be rewarded with a view of its rings in the evening sky. The charts have been prepared for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning but the planets use only a small distance over the space of a week. This means the charts can be used for the entire week.
Mars, Saturn and Spica (the brightest star in the ancient Greek constellation Virgo The Virgin) are visible above the Western horizon as evening twilight draws to an end. Just look for an upside down triangle of moderately bright stars.
Venus and Jupiter are even more obvious above the North Eastern horizon as morning twilight begins. Just look for two dazzling star like objects. Venus is the brighter of the two.
