Saturn and the Moon meet Sunday night

Do you want to see a planet but don’t have a telescope? Step out tommorrow  night (25 April) and find the Gibbous Moon. You will find it by looking above the Eastern horizon. Look below the Moon for a bright star. That’s the planet Saturn.

If you have a telescope, point it at Saturn and you will be rewarded with a view of the planet similiar to the enlargement shown in the below finder chart. Note that the rings are almost edge on and won’t be as easy to see as they usually are.

Look above the Eastern horizon as evening twilight ends on Sunday 25 April 2010. The bright star below the Gibbous Moon is the planet Saturn. The finder chart was prepared for Brisbane (Australia) for 6 pm AEST on Sunday 25 April 2010. It is suitable for use across South East Queensland and the rest of Eastern Australia.
