Space Shuttle Atlantis launches successfully

The Space Shuttle Atlantis has launched successfully on the last ever launch by a space shuttle this morning Australian time. You will be able to follow the mission live by watching NASA TV at various times. This final mission is twelve days long.

In a few days time, Atlantis will have docked at the International Space Station. Fortunately, for this particular mission the combined International Space Station and Space Shuttle will be visible either in the morning twilight sky or the evening twilight sky at various times. The combined spacecraft are very easy to see with the unaided eye and look like a very bright slowly moving star. The passes are very slow and can take more than five minutes to pass overhead.
