Nova in Delphinus (with photo)

Unfortunately cloud has meant that I am just over a day too late to have captured an image of the nova in the constellation Delphinus The Dolphin at its brightest.

For the record the image was recorded with a tripod mounted DSLR working at 6,400 ISO and a five second exposure. The lens used was set to 55 mm focal length. An excellent article and finder chart can be found on the US Sky & Telescope magazine website. It is not too late to look at the nova although it is not impressive – merely looking like a moderately bright star (astronomically speaking) where it shouldn’t be. A large pair of binoculars or small telescope is recommended as the nova is quickly fading.
