STAQ Primary Teachers Science Conference

For those interested, I am presenting a one hour workshop at the Science Teachers Association of Queensland’s ‘Science is Primary Conference’ on Saturday 19 March 2011. As far as I can tell, there are no conference details on the STAQ website yet. The only information I have is that it will be held at the ‘Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology’, Bywong Street,  Toowong.

The description for my workshop is as follows:

‘Curious how your students can explore and understand the ‘Space’ topic without the expense and risk of a rocket trip? This workshop focuses on bringing the ‘Beyond’ component of the ‘Earth & Beyond’ Strand to life in a ‘hands on’ manner. Activities using only simple materials, astronomy freeware and a robotic telescope (pre-prepared) will be used to demonstrate a range of often abstract astronomical concepts (including why your starsign is wrong). Participants will leave with a Southern Cross finder and a 3D model of the Southern Cross that they have made at the workshop. Limited to 20 participants. Note to participants: You will need to bring a pair of scissors, a glue stick, two strips of ‘Blue Tack’ and an empty A4 carton box (raid your school photocopy room).’
